Congratulations to Heather P. of Bethel Park! After four long hours of frosting and molding and decorating at GoodTaste! Pittsburgh – (with plenty of people stopping to watch!), Heather’s fun holiday cake creation won the 1st place prize unanimously!
Thanks to judges James Gray of Dozen Bake Shop, Eileen K. a Wilton Instructor, and Claire Robinson Food Network Host/Chef. They all agreed Heather had the most original creation of all.

All of the ladies did a fantastic job, and made it tough on the judges! Congratulations to Dawn, Julie, Michelle and Christa as well – we loved the reindeers, and sleighs, and elves and trees and stained glass windows!! You should all be proud!! On behalf of Operation Santa Claus, we would like to thank everyone for their interest and support of the 2010 Sweet Treat Challenge. With all of the entry fees, voting fees, and raffle tickets sold on Saturday at GoodTaste! Pittsburgh, we were able to raise $2,800 for Operation Santa Claus. That will feed well over 170 less fortunate families during the holidays this year! Special thanks to Relish Magazine for the grand prize, and to Monroeville Mall for additional contestant prizes.

This is the first time I tried using Fondant and the first time I have entered a contest! I had a vision in mind, it didn't turn out as well as I hoped, but I tried. I made leaves out of gum paste that are posed on 4 cupcakes. Tinted different color fondant for different parts of the scarecrow. The

I created this Crazy Crocodile for my kids' summer camp last year! He was a great big hit with the kids and volunteers. The body, tail, and head of this guy are carved from 12 inch round cakes. His feet are jumbo cupcakes, and his eyes are one jumbo cupcake, cut in half. He is frosted with green buttercream icing, with buttercream eyes, mouth, teeth, and toenails. The bumps on his back are jelly candy slices. This Crazy Crocodile was nearly 3 feet in length when complete!

My nephew, an avid Pens fan, requested an Iceburgh cake for his birthday cake. The cake was chocolate with buttercream icing, decorated with white Airheads candy (On the eyes) and colored buttercream icing, and was filled with Pens Pride.

My boyfriend and I made this cake for a friends birthday!! She really loves Owls. Originally we were going to just make an owl but then I decided that it would be neat if he was sitting on a tree branch or stump. The cake was a big hit at the party!!

I made this cake for the Gateway High School Lady Gators Golf Team. The spikes and fingernails are chocolate covered graham crackers. The eys are edible candy from Halloween. The teeth are almonds. The only thing not edible is the golf ball in her mouth.

I baked this wedding cake for my cousin Kathy and her husband Bill. It is a white cake with white butter cream icing.
Days before baking the cake, I hand piped the lacy filigree and accompanying violets with royal icing.
When they had dried sufficiently, they were set into place. The first anniversary cake sits under the second tier so that a traditional wedding cake topper can decorate the top tier.

I always bake my husband and 3 daughters birthday cakes, to follow my Mom's tradition. When my daughter Mariana turned 4, she chose this pirate treasure box. It was a success among kids, especially with the chocolate coins and the necklaces (at the time we couldn't find candy ones, so we used real ones) and it was very challenging for me to assemble and decorate.

The Butterfly Birthday is a three tier cake, each tier has it's own flavor and filling. All of the flowers and butterflies are hand crafted out of homemade fondant and dusted with a light coating of shimmering dust. The cake is surrounded by coordinating mini cupcakes.

I am an amateur cake baker and this is my first real creation - up to now it's been canned frosting and sprinkles. I love the beach and created this scene from cupcakes.
